With plastered hair, moist eyes, cheekbones like circumflexed accents, a tremor in his voice,Victor Leed has seduced a large audience…He turned up at Ménilmontant when he was 3 months old, and from “parisian titi” will become a scene phenomenon. Real
named Laïd Hamdani left us in 1994. After a great tribute party, 1997 nov the 18th, at the Balajo, Paris, a 3 songs single Cd “Hop que c’est fou!” is released. For Victor ‘s memory and talent: all in rythms and humour. A collector very soon!

At last a singer influenced by Elvis Presley and who is something else than a King imitation!
Victor Leed does not deny his debt but has created his own personality and it might have been a pity if it was different cause Victor Leed really got “THE” voice : A full , clear and rather deep voice which makes light of all difficulties
without the slightest effort. And to crown it all, Victor Leed has got a great presence on stage. You must watch him perfectly hair plastered, dressed with too large trousers and jacket, dancing with the microphone. A first class singer, that’s all! And the group which is backing him, French musicians- who also backed Warren Smith- is much more than up to it! The perfect little combo of rockabilly:
Jean-Jacques Astruc ( acoustic guitar) , Patrick lozach ( electric guitar), Freddie Legendre ( slappin’ bass) and Donald Rieubon (drums).

As Elvis Presley did in 1954…Son of a Paris’ employee, he grew up in the bad side of the Atlantic, in Ménilmontant, a quarter which has already paid its tribute to the “show-biz” but : “when we talked about rock and roll to Maurice Chevalier he kept telling us : “ that’s good, fellows! You are on the right way!

Victor : « people who don’t know anything really about rock music , always think rock singers are roarers who yell on 12 tempos. Not at all. Personally I love all that is between the 30’s and the 60’s. I like very much some of Louis Jordan or the Fats Domino’s from the beginning. Even Gospel was in a rock mood. Vocally, I can sing everything. I have done 5 years operetta. I am tenor soprano; for example, I sing all of Luis Mariano’s in original tones. Voice ‘s got to be worked of course. With this kind of rock, one can have a beautiful sonorous voice , and it all moves…”

Beginning of october, we happened to know with big sadness the death of 44 years old VICTOR LEED. He was a dearest friend, member of the Club since its very beginning.Victor, as a pure rock singer has become famous in the 80’S and some of you will remember him as guest singer at the club cocktails’parties. Farewell to you Victor, I ‘ll miss you.

Night-birds have often met VICTOR LEED. In 1978, he sang for Johnny Hallyday ‘s
Birthday party. Well known for his recordings on Big Beat , among others, a French version of the Blasters/ Shakin’Stevens “Mary Mary”.Victor died in October.
